About one and half hours from Lions Bluff, in Tsavo West, lies this freshwater lake that borders Tanzania. A host to hippos, crocodiles and unique birdlife. A lake shared by two countries each with different economic values.
Since the Kenyan side of the lake lies in Tsavo West National Park, no fishing is allowed. Tanzania are allowed controlled fishing.
How to get to Lake Jipe
Head west from Lions Bluff towards Taveta and turn into Jipe park at the Mwakitau gate only 10 km away.
Things to do
Lake Jipe is an ornithologists’ paradise and there is also a boat available for hire from the KWS rangers. Boat rides are provided an extra cost by KWS of USD. 5.00 per person for 1.5 hrs. A Packed picnic meal is provided for your lunch. You can also explore the bush around the lakeshore, keeping a close lookout for hippos, which are especially prevalent between the Park Gate and the village.
